It is Never Too Early to Start Planning Your Career

It is never too early to start planning your career. If you are one of the few out there who are currently in high school and already thinking about what kind of school you want to attend after graduation you are already ahead of most people out there your age. At this point it may still be to early for you to make a final decision on the career path you want to take but it is a great time to at least see what is out there. The biggest problems young adults have when deciding how to continue their education is, not knowing what opportunities are out there for them. When I finished high school I had no idea what kinds of jobs were out there besides the most common jobs like lawyer, doctor, law enforcement, engineering, etc. With as much information as there is on the internet these days and the ease at which you can access it there is no reason why anyone should have trouble finding out what career fields are out there. You can simply go to a site that has job listings like Careerjet.com and see what categories they have listed.

How to Get the Most Out of Joining the Military

So you are thinking about joining the military and want to make good choices regarding your career from the start. Whether you decide to have a long successful career and retire or you want to be a short timer and get out after your first contract you can have a very successful career post military as a contractor or in the civilian sector. How fast you become successful depends how you spend your time while you are in the military but we will talk about that in another article. Will you have a job in the military that is marketable in the contracting world or the civilian sector? Most people who have been in the military have a marketable skill they can carry over to the contracting world or the civilian sector once they get out. I would like to say all of those who get out have the experience needed to become successful even though I hear some former military personnel say that is not the case and they learned nothing of value in the military. As hard as that is for me to believe I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say there may be a small percentage of people getting out of the military that have no skills to use in the contracting world or civilian job market.

How to Get a DOD Security Clearance

If you have been browsing jobs and noticed that there are a lot of jobs out there that require you to have a DOD security clearance you might be interested in how to obtain one. Before we get into how to obtain a security clearance let me define what a security clearance is and what it is used for. It is important to know the different levels of classified information and how someone becomes eligible to access it. There are some things you can do that will improve your odds of finding a company willing to get you a clearance that I will talk about. Then I will discuss what process you will go though and what will be expected of you during this process.

To Get Ahead - Living Within Your Means Just Doesn't Cut It

You have heard the term "living with in your means" before I am sure. Many people try to give others advice on how to get ahead in the world and one of the first things they tell you is to live within your means. This is the worst peace of advice someone can give another who wants to know how to get ahead financially. The only way to get ahead financially is by living below your means. There are steps you can take to reduce everyday expenses as well as your monthly living expenses so you can start paying off debt and begin saving for the future. Knowing how to make a budget is a very important part of getting your finances in order. The next thing you will have to do is set a clearly defined set of goals for your self. By setting up a budget and defining your goals you will then have to come up with a plan to fallow so you can successfully achieve your goals. You will have to be prepared for a dramatic life style change but making a life style change by choice is better then being forced to later.

Is Your Career Stuck in Park? Time to Switch Gears With a Good Career Plan

Changing companies can be a huge decision for many people. They have worked in the same place for a few years and are comfortable with there surroundings and coworkers. They also know what to expect from their boss and the company its self. It is easy to start to feel a sense of security working for an employer you have been with for three years or more. By the two year mark you have a handle on office politics and have formed friendships with some of your coworkers. You get your three to five percent raise each year and may have received a promotion or two during your time with the company. All of this sounds great but are you were you want to be professionally? If not is career growth possible with your current employer? How long will you have to wait for your next promotion? Do your coworkers see you as someone they can respect as a boss or as a friend they can take advantage of if you reach a supervisor position? If your answers to these questions are not what you hoped they would be it is time to start thinking of taking a new direction professionally.
